They meet in Mexico, and their erotic vacation fling leaves them both wanting – and hoping for – more, once they’re home. Zach enters the police academy, Kage reports to Camp Pendleton, and they settle into daily lives as a new couple.

When Kage’s post-combat issues nearly destroy everything he and Zach have built, can they find the right help? Can they hold on, even if they do?

I loved this book. Kage & Zach were wonderful MC's. Kage's struggle with PTSD almost destroys their relationship. Zach oh! what a guy to be so supportive to stick it out no matter how tough the situation became. He always had Kage's back. It puts into the spotlight the struggle some soldiers have returning to civilian life. It also shows that when you have that special person in your life to encourage you to seek help, this help with love can sometimes repair the damage to your soul.

Not forgetting, it was a HOT!! read.

I love Kendall's books, always a must buy for me.

The start of this story roped me in with how detailed and graphic the book is. There is more to this plot than a mere love story, and that is what makes a book good. The characters have flaws, which makes them feel more real. The story, like many, does slow down a bit halfway through. Once the honeymoon period is over, the story is bogged down with the politics of day-to-day life. There's one sex scene that seems to last forever and I ended up skipping it. The last part of the book doesn't fit quite right and seems rushed as the author tries to show the effects of PTSD, but we aren't shown how we went from a slight problem to a huge problem. Perhaps if the character had gone on another deployment it would have been easier to swallow. I would have liked to have seen the characters in their workplaces as well. It felt like I was only getting half the story since I was only shown what happened to them at home.
I liked this book, although I will admit that I liked the first half (the original story) more than the second half.

In the first half of the book we are in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, where we meet Kage, a Gunnery Sergeant in the US Marine Corps who has just returned from a tour in Iraq. Kage witnessed some awful things while there and is suffering signs of PTSD when he meets Zach, a recent college graduate who is starting the police academy once his vacation is over.

Kage and Zach hook up on the beach, both thinking it is a one time casual hookup. But neither can get the other man out of their mind, and by the time their vacations are over both have fallen for each other.

In the second half, we jump ahead 9 months or so (I think), and things have gotten difficult. Kage is suffering full PTSD symptoms including severe paranoia and has become a cutter. He drinks heavily, refuses to leave the house except to go to work and refuses treatment. I liked the interplay and details surrounding Kage’s flashbacks and paranoia. I thought that the MC’s were well written and both were very likeable. The things they go through in the story seemed to mirror the things we hear from actual military members with PTSD and the way Zach stays and supports Kage is commendable.

My only issue with this story was that it seemed that everything related to Kage’s PTSD wrapped up too easily. There were no details of how Kage’s treatment was done, or even what he was doing for work during this time. The reader might assume, as I did, that he is still in the military, but that info seems to be missing. Having had a close friend lose her son to suicide as a result of Post-Iraq PTSD, I know that it isn’t always fixable, and not usually as fast as it seemed to happen in this book.

Overall though, I liked the book. I thought it was a good story and would satisfy most people who don’t have my need for excessive detail! It was a comfortable afternoon’s read and I would recommend it.

RATING 4 Stars (Originally reviewed for Love Bytes Same Sex Romance Reviews)
Loved this book. I am in the military and this describes so much of what we go through. Thank you for attention to detail. Great storyline. I really felt the love between them.
I love Her work, her stories are realistic and the sex is really hot. I noticed however that this is becoming a trend of authors lately to throw in erectile dysfunction on the main character. However realistic it just doesn't work well in the romance genre. As a reader I don't want to read that the MC can't get it up for the other MC. The love of their life should, as it always had, stir all desires and passion to the for front. I want the intensity of of their love and all consuming obsession with each other. Three of my favorite authors went that route with their new releases and each fell short of a fantastic five star story. Let's not go there again.....thanks
I loved this book especially the way it brought to life the real struggles our returning soldiers go through when attempting to transition from a war zone to life at home. I could wax on about how great the MC’s were and are each in their own way but the truth is in this book I both loved and learned. The perfect combination!
PTSD is a heartbreaking topic. I'm so glad that many authors bring it into their stories so that people like myself can learn and understand more. Lovely to have a HFN ending - hope it's true for real folks with PTSD as well! The two MC's were very likeable characters.
